Ma:
- Lees: Intro Lesson Plan: https://tjt11teacher.weebly.com/uploads/4/3/7/4/43748815/af_showcase_unit_pdf1.pdf
- Lees: A Modest Proposal, annoteer de tekst met (NLse versie: https://verbodengeschriften.nl/html/een-bescheiden-voorstel.html):
* Underline all the parts of the proposal in which the author makes arguments for why the proposal would work.
* Bracket any parts of the text you deem especially important.
* Write in the left margin your intellectual responses to what is said, and in the right margin record your emotional reactions (you should definitely have some of these).

- Lees: Intro to Satire
* Define satire and come up with examples.
* Go over the specific techniques of satire (parody, exaggeration, sarcasm, etc.) and help the students come up with examples of each technique. Suggestions include the Scary Movie movies for parody, SNL for exaggeration (or for parody), and The Onion (De Speld) for sarcasm, if they require assistance.

- Go over the differences between the text and video and which was more effective.
* Most will say the video because it made fun of the app and made liking it seem stupid, which is more effective than all the data provided by the article
* Go over Colbert’s (Lubach’s) use of exaggeration and sarcasm as satirical techniques

- Bespreek: A Modest Proposal
* What do you thing about the essay?
* Did you think it was real?
* When did you think it was something else?
* What made it so convincing?
* Make sure they understand that the essay was so convincing because it employed the logic and data one would expect from a real proposal.
* It’s many arguments made sense, except they were based on a ludicrous premise: eating children
- Go over the satirical elements of the MP
* Swift uses parody and exaggeration, mainly, to make his point
* He is satirizing the British elites who are writing all their proposals to solve the Irish problem, but are treating the Irish more like things than people.
* Swift wrote several proposals before, but none were taken seriously.
